PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Located in a historic district of Manhattan, Mulry Square encompasses a heavily- congested area that includes Seventh Avenue from West 12th to Perry Streets, West 11th Street from Waverly Place to Seventh Avenue, and Greenwich Avenue from Perry Street to Bank Street. As prime consultant, KS Engineers, P.C. (KSE) was responsible for overseeing construction of the following improvements:
Installation of 4-in. and 7-in. thick sidewalks and pedestrian ramps
Installation of decorative areas containing bluestone and granite pavers and bollards
Installation of new 12-in. and 20‑in. water mains, new drainage systems, sewer manholes, catch basins, and connectors
Installation of new steel-faced and granite curbing
Installation of new street lighting, traffic signalization, street signs, and traffic-calming systems
Utility relocations and tree plantings
Demolition of existing roadways and installation of new concrete base and asphalt wearing course.
The complexities of the project included:
Monitoring St. Vincent’s Hospital, which borders the project area, to confirm that it was not affected (through, for example, vibration, utility disruption, traffic that impedes emergency vehicles, and the like) by the contractor’s operations.
Monitoring the significant utility relocation work by Con Edison to confirm that it proceeded without unduly impacting the contractor’s activity and construction schedule.
