PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The purpose of the project was to rehabilitate the following six stations on the White Plains Road (IRT) Line:

East Tremont Avenue, 174th Street, Freeman Street, Simpson Street, Intervale Avenue, Jackson Avenue

The overall scope of work for station rehabilitation included:

  • Removal and replacement of all existing wood elements from stairs and head-house floors, walls, and roofs.
  • Repair and replacement of street stairs and stair canopies.
  • Replacement of mezzanine structures with approved materials that included floor slabs, walls, and roofs.
  • Installation of new flooring treatments and replacement of platform canopies.
  • Incorporation of all applicable requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) (no elevators were required, however).

KS Engineers, P.C. (KSE)'s scope of work encompassed topographic surveying and utility surveys, utility research and identification, and utility mapping (including reflected ceiling plans for all utilities at the platform level). Surveys included street-level areas, as well as the mezzanine and platform levels. Utilities identified at the stations included NYCDOT traffic signals and street lighting; Con Edison electric and gas lines and customer electrical service boxes; and telephone, cable, sewer, and water services.
