KS Engineers, P.C. (KSE) performed complete field inspection services at Buildings 1140 and 1150 at Port Newark/Elizabeth, New Jersey Marine Terminal located in Newark, NJ. Building 1140 and 1150 are each one story high-bay structures with small adjoining two story office area encompassing, in total, approximately 354,780 and 295,000 square feet, respectively. The buildings are connected at grade level by a walk-through link. Both buildings are approximately 38 ft high and are primarily of steel framed construction incorporating steel truss joists and rolled steel members supporting metal deck as the framing for the roof and office floors. Supporting steel roof girders span to steel columns which are, in turn, supported by raised concrete filled pipe sections serving as piers. The building floors are constructed of concrete slabs on grade and the walls are of masonry construction with metal cladding enveloping the exterior.

The scope of work included performing a complete condition survey of the roof framing and columns and masonry wall and submitting to the Authority a condition inspection report with repair recommendations. The overall condition of the warehouse buildings were determined by using the following inspection procedures:

    • 100% visual inspection and 10% hands-on inspection

    • Status of priority recommendations recommended in previous inspection.
