As part of the Hatch Mott MacDonald (HMM) Engineering Team, KS Engineers, P.C. (KSE) was responsible for the structural evaluation of the Met-Life Building’s lower roof. The project’s objective was to design support for new, heavier ventilation fans servicing the two existing air shafts which pass through 12 stories from the subterranean GCT Train Shed to the roof of the low rise portion of the Met-Life Building.
KSE's role also included the design of all supporting structures on the roof of the train shed for the new ventilation system and duct work provided by HMM. KSE's work included researching data on the design of the Met-Life Building and the GCT Train Shed, verification of the existing structural condition and the preparation of bidding documents.
