PROJECT DESCRIPTION

KS Engineers, P.C. (KSE) provided civil and traffic engineering services for the new multi-story, 140,000 gross square foot Center for Science, Technology, and Mathematics Education of New Jersey (CTSME). The facility includes high-end wet labs for molecular biology, chemistry and forensic biochemistry, core science and math wet and dry labs, faculty research labs, sterile culture rooms, lab prep and storage space, forensic crime scene facilities for mock investigations, supercomputer parallel computer facilities, lecture halls, classrooms, and faculty offices

KSE was responsible for the preparation of all the site civil drawings for the new building, including grading and drainage plans, utility plans, all construction details for the new sidewalks, catch basins, piping, trenches, conduits, chiller water lines, and gas and electrical services.

The building has been designed to the standards of LEED Gold Certification and it is the University’s plan to submit the project for accreditation. To achieve the goals of Kean University, KSE incorporated the following Sustainable Site Credits into the design to assist in obtaining the minimum 39 points required for this level of certification:

  • Sustainable Site Prerequisite 1 – Construction Activity Pollution Prevention
  • Sustainable Site Credit 4.1 – Alternate Transportation, Public Transportation Access
  • Sustainable Site Credit 4.2 – Alternate Transportation, Bicycle Storage and Changing Rooms
  • Sustainable Site Credit 6.1 – Stormwater Design – Quality Control
