PROJECT DESCRIPTION

KS Engineers, P.C. (KSE) is providing Site Safety Inspection and Construction Inspection services for interior renovations at the Bronx Civil Supreme Courthouse.

The purpose of this $17 million project is to renovate the interior of the existing Supreme Court Building, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is designated as a New York City landmark. Accordingly, all renovation and preservation efforts must reflect the integrity and historic importance of the prominent structure, and comply with the guidelines and restrictions of the above governing groups. The total construction duration is anticipated to be four years.

Construction Management services will be provided in two phases and executed under three separate contracts. The three contracts are the Design Phase, Construction Phase, and General Conditions Works Phase. The existing Courthouse will remain operational during the renovation process.

Phased construction is required and the design consultant is developing the construction documents accordingly. The phased methodology (horizontal or vertical) – floors, area, and/or quadrants – is being determined in concert with the design consultant during the schematic design phase. Close coordination will be required with the contractor providing elevator modernization, MEP systems, and infrastructure upgrade work, which will be conducted simultaneously by the Department of Citywide Administration Services (DCAS).

As the interior work has progressed, KSE has monitored the contractor’s activities. In those cases where activities have been observed that are unsafe or in violation of regulations, these have been reported and quickly corrected thanks to KSE’s activities.

KSE has also provided Construction Management and Site Supervision services for the Courthouse Annex Roof Replacement. Coordinate work activities daily with Owner, ensure protective measures were in place.
