This $200 million construction project is located along Route 9A, from Battery Place to Chambers Street in New York County. The work includes the reconstruction of the Route 9A damaged in the terrorist attacks of 9/11/01 and the construction of an urban promenade. The roadway profile will be raised to meet the proposed grade of the World Trade Center Memorial, between Albany Street and Murray Street. Other elements of work include the relocation/upgrade of public and private utility facilities; installation of street lighting, traffic signals, and an ITS system; the removal of two temporary bridges (located at Vesey Street and Rector Street) and structural improvements/modifications to the existing permanent bridge at Liberty Street; and construction of extensive landscape urban design elements, such as granite pavement, landscape planting, and irrigation system. It is anticipated the project will involve a significant amount of night work, including consecutive 8 hour shifts.
KSE will be responsible for providing construction inspection services in a team led by DMJM+Harris, Inc. Extensive coordination between WTC Path Terminal, WTC Memorial Site, Freedom Tower, Fulton Street Transit Center, BPC Site 26, etc… scheduled to be under construction will be required, particularly PANYNJ pedestrian concourse construction (18A & 18B) within the Route 9A.
