Professional Engineering Design Services for Three Intersections in City of Elizabeth,
Union County, NJ

KSE was retained by the County of Union, Division of Engineering for design of three intersections in City of Elizabeth, NJ. The scope of work for this project included:
- Complete upgrade of traffic signal equipment at intersections of:
- South Broad Street (CR 623) & Summer Street;
- South Broad Street (CR 623) & South Street; and
- Pearl Street (CR 614) & Washington Avenue.
- Image detection and battery backup systems shall be installed at all
intersections.
- Development of coordinated signal timing plans to move vehicles and
pedestrians through the area in a safe and efficient manner. Timing
coordination shall be evaluated at each traffic signal (within the project limits)
where other signals (outside the project limits) are located within 1000 feet of
the project limits.
- Stormwater Management upgrades in compliance with NJDEP regulations
regarding inlet curb pieces (within the project limits).
- Installation of Detectable Warning Devices in compliance with ADAAG
regulations. This may also include the construction or reconstruction of new
handicap ramps at all intersections both signalized and unsignalized within the
project limits.
- Intersection resurfacing may be required as a result of geometric, striping
and/or other modifications, and shall be evaluated at each intersection.
The work associated with this project included all surveying and related fieldwork, as
well as the design and preparation of all necessary plans, reports, specifications, and
final as-built construction documents required to obtain NJDOT approval.
