PROJECT DESCRIPTION
KS Engineers, P.C. (KSE) was responsible for providing resident engineering inspection services for this project that included installation of 6”, 8” and 12” water mains and appurtenances to improve and upgrade the existing distribution system; roadway reconstruction; installation of new combined storm and sanitary sewers (15”, 18”, 24”, 30”, 36”, & 48”) on concrete cradles; installation of catch basins, chute connections and manholes to improve roadway drainage; and reconstruction of a reinforced concrete retaining wall and a reinforced concrete staircase.
The streets are mostly residential having both two-way and one-way traffic flow. There are some small businesses and a public school that were within the contract area. The street work included new street lighting, steel faced concrete curbs, new 4” & 7” sidewalks with handicap access ramps, traffic signals and street markings. In addition, some pavement milling and resurfacing was provided. Roadway reconstruction included a 6” high early concrete base and 3” asphaltic concrete wearing surface, pavement milling and resurfacing. The construction contract also included provisions for expanding tree pits, removal of existing trees and new tree plantings. Along with City work, there was work to upgrade and improve private utility facilities. The area that was covered by the contract is highlighted in yellow. The project locations includes: Pratt Avenue from East 233rd Street to Marolla Place, Amundson Avenue from East 233rd Street to Pratt Avenue, Seton Avenue from East 233rd Street to its Dead End Street, Connor Street from Pratt Avenue to Secor Avenue, Marolla Place from Boston Post Road to Boller Avenue, Crawford Avenue from Baychester Avenue to Boller Avenue, Palmer Avenue from Crawford Avenue to the New England Thruway, and Boller Avenue from Marolla Place to its Dead End Street.
