KS Engineers, P.C. (KSE) provided comprehensive surveying, mapping, geospatial data collection, and construction support services for phased improvement projects at Newark Liberty International Airport. Retained by Langan Engineering as a subconsultant, KSE supported planning, design, and future construction activities through the delivery of high-accuracy survey and mapping products across both public and airside areas of the airport. The firm’s services included design-level topographic surveys, utility data collection, lease line plotting, establishment of survey control, development of base mapping, support for future construction stakeout activities, and preparation of as-built surveys. All work was performed under the supervision of a New York Licensed Professional Land Surveyor and was coordinated with applicable Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) requirements and standards.
To support the design team, KSE developed detailed design-level base mapping utilizing newly acquired survey data collected through a combination of advanced field survey technologies and conventional surveying techniques. Data acquisition methods included total stations, Global Positioning System (GPS) equipment, terrestrial laser scanning, and mobile LiDAR technology, allowing for the efficient collection of highly accurate three-dimensional spatial information. The resulting computer-generated base maps provided a comprehensive representation of existing site conditions and served as the foundation for engineering design and project development. Surveyed features included buildings, roadways, curbs, sidewalks, parking facilities, pavement markings, utility structures, drainage elements, ground hardware, spot elevations, and one-foot contour intervals. The integration of multiple data collection technologies ensured that the mapping accurately reflected existing conditions throughout the project area.
In addition to the primary base mapping effort, KSE provided off-site survey services to support design activities associated with the phased airport improvements. The firm also performed as-built surveys as requested throughout the project and incorporated relevant information from the original base mapping when appropriate to maintain consistency and efficiency. To facilitate future construction activities, KSE established additional onsite benchmarks and survey control points referenced to the existing PANYNJ Newark Airport grid maintained by the PANYNJ Central Survey Group. These control networks provided the framework necessary for future construction stakeout, verification surveys, and ongoing project implementation.
All survey mapping deliverables were prepared in accordance with AutoCAD-based PANYNJ CAD standards and project-specific requirements. KSE provided both two-dimensional and three-dimensional digital files to support engineering design, coordination, and construction activities. Through its application of advanced survey technologies, rigorous quality control procedures, and extensive aviation infrastructure experience, KSE delivered accurate, reliable geospatial data that supported successful project planning, design development, and future construction operations throughout the airport.
