This project is located in Croton-Harmon, New York and is a continuation of Metro-North Railroad’s Harmon Shop Replacement Program. The previous contract included site and track work, the demolition of the Blow Shed facility and other miscellaneous structures. The eastern portion of the shop was replaced with a two-track, 10-car, double-ended Consist Shop Facility. The new Consist Shop Facility includes a ground floor, a partial mezzanine floor, and a partial second floor.
Various options considered to support the Stage II functions include additional second floor space over the Consist Shop Facility, as well as an option for the construction of a stand-alone EMU Annex building in the area north of the existing Materials Distribution Center (MDC) in Harmon Yard, also referred to as Building 14.
The new EMU Annex building will be a multi-story structure, designed and constructed with provisions to connect to the Stage II EMU Running Repair and Support Shop Facility, which will be constructed east of yard tracks 84 and 86. Included with the Phase V – Stage I work is the completion of the final leg of the medium voltage distribution 15 KV loop (also referred to as 13.2 KV loop) and the re-construction of the site track work as required to allow access to the proposed Consist Shop Facility.
KS Engineers, P.C. (KSE) has been retained by AECOM to provide MEP, civil, and mechanical construction inspection services. KSE will also provide qualified licensed field surveyors, survey teams, and instruments to verify the design-builder’s layout for aspects of the project on an as-needed basis.
For the duration of this project, KSE contributes to coordination activities with the Village of Croton-on-Hudson, various MNR departments (Communications and Signals, Maintenance of Way, Power, Safety and Security, Information Technology,
