KS Engineers, P.C. (KSE) conducted a structural facility and condition field inspection of the Emergency Services Training Facility (ESTC) to determine the facility’s useful life and develop a prioritized list of major maintenance items required to keep the live fire training structures in a State of Good Repair (SOGR). The work included the field inspection of interior and exterior structural members, documentation of significant cracking, leaking, leaching, spalling, and any failing construction/expansion joints. The information obtained during the field inspection was used as a decision support tool for data assessment/management and incorporated into the County’s asset management system.
KSE certified that Burlington County’s facilities complied with NFPA 1403, Chapter 7, Structural Integrity requirements on the basis of their inspection and report. KSE inspected the buildings for structural and safety defects and documented visible cracks, rust, spalls, or warps in structural floors, columns, beams, walls, or metal panels.
PROJECT OBJECTIVES
The overall objective of this project included the provision of a visual structural inspection and review that included the following:
- Identification and quantification of deficiencies in the structural components of the buildings;
- Prioritization of deficiencies and recommended repairs;
- Recommendations and technical direction for repairs and/or improvements.
Traditional testing was conducted including visual survey, sounding or hammer tapping and destructive testing involving the retrieval and analysis of concrete cores.
