Project Description

KS Engineers, P.C. (KSE) was retained by Greenman-Pedersen, Inc. (GPI) as a subconsultant to provide field inspection services for the Verrazano Narrows Bridge in Richmond and Kings Counties.  The following tasks included:

Work included the inspection, cleaning, and painting of all suspender ropes from 10 feet above the roadway through the inside of the stiffening truss, all floors, and stiffening truss members, gusset plates and all steel connections to the main structural members; and median center post repairs. The project also included the installation of traveler rail / runway beams on the main span, hangers, and splices.

The project tasks also involved the installation of a new maintenance catwalk system on each side of the bridge adjacent to the lower cord of the stiffening truss. Furnishing and installing means restriction fencing system and accessories; abatement of lead contaminating materials; and maintenance and protection of traffic.
