Project Description

KS Engineers, P.C. (KSE) has been retained to provide structural and civil engineering services to the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey (PANYNJ) for the relocation of the Passerelle pedestrian bridge to facilitate the PANYNJ’s LGA AirTrain Project. The new Passerelle Bridge will be located northeast of, and immediately adjacent to, the existing Passerelle Bridge’s current site.

Structural Engineering

KSE will perform the structural design of the replacement bridge over Meridian Road between the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) and the existing building face. The new bridge will consist of two spans with eight bays at the same location of the existing bridge. We will also conduct a seismic analysis of the two-span bridge, and design the removal, repair, and re-installment of the folded roof structure. We will also develop the construction staging, a construction cost estimate, and coordination with the prime and designers of adjacent bridge sections. We will also provide construction support services, including shop drawing reviews, response to RFIs, coordination to address field conditions, and site visits.

Civil Engineering

KSE will design the drainage on the bridge. This may take the form of scuppers with downspouts that will connect into the existing surface drainage system beneath the bridge. KSE will also prepare Work Zone Traffic Control Plans showing the construction staging and the Maintenance and Protection of Traffic (MPT) required on Meridian Road to safely construct the bridge. This will include coordination with OCMC. KSE will prepare construction details for the drainage items of work, and will also provide construction support services, including shop drawing reviews, response to RFIs, coordination to address field conditions, and site visits.
