KS Engineers, P.C. (KSE) provided structural engineering design services for the foundation of the Headhouse, East and West Piers, and associated passenger boarding towers (PBTs) as part of the Terminal 1 Redevelopment Project at John F. Kennedy International Airport for the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey (PANYNJ). KSE’s scope of work included the design of the pile caps and grade beams.
As part of Task 1 – Schematic Design, KSE reviewed the structural design criteria, and prepared a Building Information Model, as well as preliminary foundation drawings/ calculations, typical detail sheets, and preliminary structural specifications. We also reviewed and addressed PANYNJ’s comments on the preliminary submittal, and coordinated the structural drawings with architectural, civil, and MEP drawings.
Under Task 2 – Early Foundation Package, Phase 1 (A0, A1, and A2), KSE further developed the foundation plans to 100% completion. KSE coordinated the foundation design with the structural design of the superstructure and drawings with architectural, civil, and MEP drawings, and also responded to peer or constructability review comments. KSE submitted structural calculations, the Building Information Model, and foundation plans in August 2020.
