Project Description

KS Engineers, P.C. (KSE) was retained to provide civil engineering services associated with the accessibility upgrades at the MTA New York City Transit (NYCT) Livonia Street Station on the Canarsie Line.

This Design-Build project will provide improvements at the station to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). These improvements include adding elevators to allow all passengers to utilize the station. Other improvements include a new control house, new bathrooms and station maintenance facilities, additional stairs, architectural enhancements, State of Good Repair station rehabilitations, and improved lighting, telecommunications, and signing.

KSE provided utility and geotechnical engineering support for the construction of the elevators and stairs. KSE performed foundation design. This work included a review of existing boring information, obtaining additional borings, and review and analysis of the boring results.

Construction of new elevators and the expanded station required construction of a new sanitary sewer main to connect to an adjacent combined sewer. Design efforts included coordination with NYCDEP to obtain Site Connection Plan (SCP) approval for the new sewer main. To obtain NYCDEP SCP approval an underground stormwater retention system was designed infiltrate stormwater runoff from the expanded station and new platform canopies.  KSE prepared the NYCDEP Site Connection Permit application and ordered the hydrant flow test needed by the project MEP.

KSE provided Design Services During Construction (DSDC) including responding to contractor Requests for Information and reviewing shop drawings.
