Project Description

KS Engineers, P.C. provided Construction Management Inspection Services  for the Queens College Fitzgerald Gymnasium Roof Replacement and Asbestos Abatement project.

The Fitzgerald Gym at Queens College is a three-story building completed in 1958 with a pool located on the ground floor and a gym located on the top floor, which has a 30-foot high ceiling located directly under the barrel-vaulted roof. SuperStructures Engineers and Architects, completed a roof investigation and construction documents to replace the precast cement plank deck with a new acoustical metal deck system covered by a PVC roofing system. Included in the project scope are new mechanical units and lighting upgrades that will allow the facility to host nationally televised sporting events.

Sasaki Architects designed a comprehensive renovation of the existing facility totaling 157,300 square feet and a new natatorium and auxiliary gymnasium addition totaling 75,400 square feet. These upgrades created a facility that offers Queens College a much-needed resource, serving the college’s Division II intercollegiate athletes, the academic Department of Family, Nutrition, and Exercise Science (FNES), and the general student population
